Elkhorn Slough, 16 x 20, Oil on Canvas, $2000
Elkhorn Slough is a very beautiful place on the coast of California, an hour south of Santa Cruz. All that wetland was once a factory-type dairy farm, which destroyed the land and dirtied the water. The Nature Conservancy bought some of it in 1971 and began cleanup, other conservationist groups bought more of it, and now it's a 5000-acre habitat for 700 species of animals and birds, and is a National Estuarine Research Reserve.
